Full moon update

It's WIPocalypse time! I did not stitch a lot this month... shame on me... I worked a little on Ol Harvest Moon

Topaz and I decided to look for some signs of spring

No luck... snow is everywhere and the lake still solid frozen...

except a tiny opening by the docks

hmm... not much room for swans to land...

Celebrating New Season

In many traditions, this is the start of the new year. The Roman year began on the ides of March (15th). The astrological year begins on the equinox when the moon moves into the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries, the Ram. The Greek God Ares is equivalent to the Roman Mars for whom the month of March is named. Between the 12th century and 1752, March 25th was the day the year changed in England and Ireland. March 25, 1212 was the day after March 24, 1211.

The spring equinox is one of the four great solar festivals of the year. Day and night are equal, poised and balanced, but about to tip over on the side of light. The spring equinox is sacred to dawn, youth, the morning star and the east. The Saxon goddess, Eostre (from whose name we get the direction East and the holiday Easter) is a dawn goddess, like Aurora and Eos. Just as the dawn is the time of new light, so the vernal equinox is the time of new life.

I had my own celebration of this new season. I stitched! For the first day of Spring I've chose a small ornament (some day I will stitch the whole sampler) from Birdsong II by the Prairie Schooler.

I was on the roll so after finishing the stitching part I'd made an actual ornament!

Stitchy weekend

It has become a habit - every third weekend of the month is a stitching marathon. It all started with Joysze of Random Ramblings.   Many moons ago she has invented International Hermit and Stitch Weekend (IHSW) and has been a wonderful hostess since.

I had so many stitching plans for this weekend but after all I worked on only one project, Halloween House by Ursula Micheal.

I'm very pleased with progress I've made (scroll down for the 'before' picture).  I think that actually I can finish this piece way before Halloween if I can keep up this speed.

May the luck of Irish be yours!

Turtle Trot

Did anyone said that spring is near? Well, not here! That is what I woke up to this morning...

And I've completely forgot to post my Turtle Trot update. I'm a day late but here it is:

The poor 'Halloween House' was neglected for way too long. It started as a SAL with Linda of Stitching with my Furbabies  over a year ago. There is eleven of stitching same project and so far only one was finished so I still have a chance not to be a last one to finish it... It is back on Q-snaps and has a few more stitches in. From now on I will work on HH every Friday.

'Good Morning' got the writing done and from now on I will stitch this project only once a week on Thursdays

M. Quertier 1799 has another motif done and from now on I'm dedicating Sundays to Scarlet Letter projects.

National Wormhole Day Blog Hop

Thank you to Stephen Tremp Laura Eno and Luanne Smith of Bards and Prophets for hosting National Wormhole Day Blog Hop celebrating Albert Einstein’s Birthday (March 14th).

'What would you do or where would you go if you could traverse a wormhole through space or time just once?' That's the question we need to answer in  more/less 100 words.

Yeah, it's a very good question and there are many places and times I would love to go - it's so hard to choose just one...

OK, I know! Since I have a guaranteed return passage to the present I would love to go back some ten thousand years ago...

Did aliens really visit our Earth? Do they have something to do with the 'missing link' in our human evolution? I certainly agree with Erick Von Daniken and I think that they do - it would be so cool to know for sure. How did they do it? Did they had laboratories on their space crafts and have experimented on early humans or there were no humans and aliens have created us by mixing their own genes with genes of great apes? I guess to know the answers I would have to stay for a while in the past (hopefully I wouldn't be affected by aging process). Then, after return from the time travel I could write an awesome story about my discoveries.

Daylight savings

Gosh! Again I've lost an hour! This morning I woke up early and had so many plans for the morning - nope, none of them happen. I have no idea why we changing time on the north. There is no savings here... it's almost eight o'clock and still dark outside.... I guess it will be nice to have an extra hour of daylight in the evening, but our evenings are bright already and our days are getting 'longer' by six minutes every day - soon the darkness will be gone and sun will shine at midnight.

Couple of weeks ago I received floss in the mail and had no idea why did I order it. I look on these beautiful colors and couldn't figure out which projects they belong to. About ten days later I received the chart and the mystery was solved. A while ago while browsing Blogland I fell in love with lovely project design by Joan A. Elliot. I liked it so much that I ordered the chart and floss right away and forgot about it... To prevent further 'senior moments' I started to stitch immediately, here is the progress:

I know, I know - I promised not to have any new 'starts' before at least three projects are finished from my WIP pile - I just couldn't resist the cheerfulness of this design...

Happy International Women's Day!

All the best to all women around the world! Today is the day to celebrate goddess in each and everyone of you. So today do not fight for women's rights (we should do it every day of the whole year) do not join screaming feminists, but take time to enjoy life and pamper yourself, and your mother, and your sister, and your girlfriend and every other woman. You and her are goddesses!

Today is a very special day for me. I do celebrate women's day alright but also today is a 23 anniversary of my coming to North America.

I remember, just like yesterday, flying across Atlantic Ocean

and landing in New York...

And that was just a beginning of my long journey... journey of discovery and learning... journey full of dreams that isn't over yet.
